Setting up Tradestation/Supercharts Omega Downloader

Run Omega Downloader by clicking the following icon in Start->Programs->Omega Research product menu on your desktop : This is an optional component in Tradestation ProSuite package (you need to install ProSuite with Custom Installation option in order to get it) and it was standard tool in previous versions of both Tradestation and Supercharts.

• In the program menu Tools click Options
• Click DataVendor tab
• Choose "Internet" from drop-down menu Phone Network
• Choose "DialData" from drop-down menu DataVendor
• Enter any User ID starting with Z ( example : Z6881 )
• Enter any Password
• Click OK to close the window

Now your Data Downloader is configured to work with Quotelf.

Downloading the data

You can use "File -> Securities" or "File -> Download" menus for retrieving data.

In the Securities window select stocks which you want to update. Here you can also Copy, Delete, Edit and change Settings for any symbol.

Click Download button

Make absolutely sure that Quotelf Omega is launched at this moment! Click Download one more time.

Quotelf doesn't download any fundamental data or Open Interest data. Please do not use Recollect bad data option as the results will be unpredictable. Use only two download options marked by blue circle on the above picture.

If everything is OK, the Omega Downloader will start to make requests to DialData server and these requests will be redirected to Quotelf and you will see the progress of the update. If you have any questions, please read the Frequently Asked Questions and Answers and the help file provided with the program or contact our technical support.

Tip 1. You can download today's data even during trading hours. But do not forget to update the data the same evening 3 to 5 hours after market close in order to ensure that today's data contains 'true' EOD prices. Some stocks may not update during trading session because sometimes Yahoo doesn't report interactive prices correctly and qCenter will filter out such data. As a result, you will see "Re-Downloading ..." message for any such symbol at the end of download process. If you do not want to wait, simply abort the download in Omega Downloader and distribute the downloaded data.

Tip 2. If you missed the evening update, and try to update the yesterday's quotes before the market opened this morning, we'd recommend to change "Last date to download" parameter on the above picture to yesterday date. This will significantly speed up the download process.

Tip 3. If you try to update last Friday's data on weekend please set "Last date to download" parameter on the above picture to Friday's date. This also will significantly speed up the download process.

Tip 4. Avoid invalid symbols which do not update regularly. This only slows down the download process. Example: If you try to download "*DWI X" symbol it will always fail, as there's no such symbol in Yahoo's database. Instead change the ticker to ^DJI which is a valid ticker for Dow Jones Industrial Average on Yahoo.
